Fall Foliage in Maine to Be Good this Year (2011)

The experts are saying that the fall foliage in Maine should be plentiful and colorful this year. We have had plenty of wet weather this year; and that is both good and bad for the leaves. The bad news is that wet weather causes a fungi-related malady called anthracnose to spread which causes the leaves to blacken and trees to loose their leaves early. However, this condition is not widespread in Maine and will not be noticed by the fall leaf peepers. The good news is that because of the plentiful rain we will have healthy and colorful leaves providing us with scenic vistas this fall.
