A Little of Maine Becoming History: Sardine Cannery to Close
The last sardine cannery in the United States is shutting down on April 18, 2010. The cannery, in Prospect Harbor, Maine, will be the last of its kind to operate in the U.S. Sardine canneries in the U.S. have "fallen victim to global competition, corporate consolidations, and a general lack of appetite".
